Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are in talks to buy struggling French club Bordeaux. Bordeaux were relegated to the country’s third tier, National 1, by French football’s financial watchdog (DNCG) on Tuesday. After failing to secure a guarantee for the 2024-25 season.
The Liverpool club are appealing the decision and now have two weeks to finalise the sale so they can remain in Ligue 2 next season.UFABET
Bordeaux and FSG presented takeover proposals to DNCG at Tuesday’s meeting
“Fenway Sports Group has shown a potential interest in the acquisition of French football club Girondins de Bordeaux. And is in the early stages of negotiations and engagement.” FSG said.
“As the process is still in the exploratory phase, we will not be making any further comments,”
When FSG appointed Michael Edwards as the company’s chief football officer earlier this year. Part of the deal included helping identify and manage a second club.
Bordeaux was granted permission to remain in the first trial by the DNCG on June 27.
The six-time French champions were relegate to the country’s second tier at the end of the 2021-22 season.
